How are instruments checked?
All instruments go through our thorough workshop inspection before sale.
Woodwind
Unwrapped and visual check for any damage or marks.
All keys are checked
for regulation & seating. Most instruments needs
some regulation.
Sockets & tenons are checked, particularly on wooden
instruments, where tenons are often binding.
Instruments are then test
played, cleaned and packed away.
Brass
Unwrapped and visual inspection for any damage or marks.
Valves are cleaned
thoroughly and oiled. Then they are checked to ensure they run smoothly.
Trombone
slides are checked for accuracy. They are then left dry, so you can
use your own lubricant.
Tuning slides are cleaned and re-greased.
Water keys are checked for air-tightness.
Instruments are then test played,
cleaned and packed away.
Strings
Unwrapped and visual inspection for any damage or marks.
Fingerboard
and top nut are checked and adjusted if necessary.
Pegs are properly fitted
and lubricated with peg-paste.
Soundpost is fitted and adjusted.
The bridge needs to be accurately
fitted for height, angle and feet. String notches are cut in the correct
position.
Tailpiece and strings are setup, and the instrument tuned.
Instruments
are then checked for buzzes and wolf-notes, and then packed away.
